Sharkwater (2006)

If you are afraid for the sea, its known as Thalassophobia. But if its sharks that is causing that fear, then you are indeed, Selachophobia. Very little is known about this creature. I must say, I myself, am a skeptical when it comes to sharks, of course. But hopefully, by watching this Film, you would have some knowledge on what sharks are really like.

You have to pretty much see the film for yourself. I couldn’t, and wouldn’t want to explain the contents here, just some facts on what I think of the whole situation.

I think it was very nice of him, Rob Stewart, to be so passionate about saving sharks. I can see his enthusiasm. But if I didn’t know better, I would think he has this weird fetish about sharks and their teeth. Seriously.

I think, it is indeed true, that just because it is unseen (life in sea), we don’t really care what goes on in it. I never knew that 80% of the oxygen on earth comes from the sea. So I see the importance now, on trying to keep the sea as it is, as much as possible.

And with the sharks being at top of the eco marine food chain, it is somewhat important to make sure they continue to exist. So long-line fishing is definitely not the way to go. Rob made some pretty solid reasoning too. I mean, it is just cruel. Everything gets caught in it. And it came to a point in which, its not just about sharks now, but everything else that gets caught and die almost instantly.

Another interesting (segment?!) part of the film was when he interviewed certain people. There were stuff like “They’re sharks, and they are for food”. Shortminded people would say stuff like that. I don’t entirely disagree, but then again, if its done in a proper manner, why not. I personally wouldn’t kill them, but well, I understand those who does. Its the fear thats actually doing all the work.

“They kill so many already, everyone should kill them back if they ever had the chance.” This is just another idiot talking, really. No religion gives you the right to take any living things life as a punishment. That is just ridiculous. We don’t get to justify others right to be here on earth, even sharks. Leave it to God, please.

It is sad to see that money controls everything. And us, humankind, can be so intolerable towards other creatures. I know, there are wars, and so many other things that we should worry. But we couldn’t even do the right thing with something that won’t necessarily fight back, so where should we really start, you think?

Of course, I am not as passionate as he is when it comes to sharks. But I’m stumped on what it might do to the ecosystem, to our earth, to our future. Don’t say we won’t have one, because honestly, its not your job to decide. Our job is to do our best, to make sure, we have that opportunity, don’t just throw that away. Sangat tak cool..

Have a look at the trailer. I think its rather spectacular, don’t you think? Kan?

On the other hand, its also good to know that our very own Minister, Azmi Khalid is doing something about the whole shark-finning issue. I think, we should follow his footsteps on this matter.

I’m trying to.

And also, if you need more information on saving sharks, you can always go the the Official Website for Sharkwater. There are a lot of informations, pictures, videos, interviews, and it could help you understand better.

My suggestion, is to just go and get the film, and watch it. Drop a line, tell me what you think, if you ever did.

    Hi Janns,
I enjoy traveling very much, and I’m sure so do everyone else. But what I’m really hoping to do, is to help people realize the right way to travel, but I still have a long way to go about it.
And also, on the marine life thing, honestly, I have no idea, don’t even have a scuba diving license just yet. But I’m doing some more reading on that matter.

    Ok Luna, no problem.
